That’s probably because you DON’T know this:

Today’s amuse-bouche 🍽️
“faire genre” / “faire semblant”
= to fake / pretend / act like

Sounds simple? Most learners totally miss the nuance.

Let’s break it down ⬇️

⸻

“Faire semblant de…” = to pretend to…
• Il fait semblant de dormir = He’s pretending to sleep
• Elle fait semblant d’aimer ça = She’s faking it 😬

You always need “de + infinitive”.

But now comes the spoken French twist 👇

“Faire genre…” = Act like… / Give off fake vibes

RIGHT (spoken & real):
• Il fait genre il est malade = He’s acting like he’s sick
• Elle fait genre elle s’en fout = She’s pretending not to care
• Tu fais genre t’as pas compris = You’re acting like you didn’t get it

WRONG:
• ❌ Il fait genre qu’il est malade
(Sounds clunky. Real French skips “que”.)

💡Think of it like:
He’s like, “I’m sick.” → not “that he is sick.”

⸻

Taf ? 🤔It means work. You can also say « le boulot ». « Le travail » works too, but in everyday French people use « le boulot » or « le taf » more often.

⸻

So what’s the takeaway?

If you want to stop sounding like Google Translate:
🎯 Use “faire semblant de” for actions
🎯 Use “faire genre + sentence” for attitude

Let’s fix 7 mistakes no French person would ever make.

Episode 4 of Pardon my français starts NOW.

French is hard. But it gets way easier when you stop making these easy mistakes.

⸻

1. Je suis fini ❌ → J’ai fini ✅
You’re not finished, you’re DEAD.
“Je suis fini” literally means “I’m done for.” Like… terminal.
Say “J’ai fini” if you just finished your croissant, not your life.

⸻

2. C’est possible pour ❌ → C’est possible de ✅
French doesn’t do “possible for.”
Say: C’est possible de venir demain ?
Not: C’est possible pour venir ? (Ouch.)
But "c’est possible pour moi de faire ça" is okay, meaning "it’s possible for me to do that".

⸻

3. Je suis intéressé pour ❌ → Je suis intéressé par ✅
Another “pour” problem.
Say: Je suis intéressé par ce film.
Not: pour ce film, that just screams “help me, I’m stuck in Duolingo.” 😂

⸻

4. Chercher pour ❌ → Chercher ✅
No “for” needed. Ever.
It’s already in the verb.
Say: Je cherche mes clés.
Not: Je cherche pour mes clés. You’re not shopping for “pour.”

⸻

5. J’aime de / à ❌ → J’aime ✅
No preposition after “aimer.”
Not J’aime de manger
Not J’aime à courir
Just: J’aime manger. J’aime courir. Period. Voilà.

⸻

6. J’ai beaucoup des amis ❌ → J’ai beaucoup d’amis ✅
“Beaucoup DE” is the rule. Always.
Do we say “a lot ofs” in English? Nope.
Same in French. Cut the “des.” Add confidence.

⸻

7. J’ai parlé sur toi ❌ → J’ai parlé de toi ✅
This one? Not good.
Say: J’ai parlé de toi = I talked about you. (Friendly!)
Say: J’ai parlé sur toi = I badmouthed you. (C’est pas gentil).

⸻

Speak like a real French speaker, not a robot.
Fix these. Repeat them. Make them automatic.
