Unpopular opinion: Your French isn’t holding you back. Your identity in French is.

Most expats don’t struggle with French.
They struggle with invisible mistakes that keep them sounding like outsiders.

And the real problem?
No one ever corrects them.

So they repeat the same errors.
Every day.
In meetings, cafés, friendships, real life.

Quick challenge:
Write 5 sentences using the words or expressions from this episode.
Post them in the comments or send them by message, I’ll correct them.
That’s how reflexes actually change.

Pardon my français | Episode 8

This series isn’t about school French.
It’s not about being “good enough”.

It’s about how you are perceived when you speak.
And why small mistakes quietly block confidence, credibility, and connection.

These mistakes don’t come from a lack of intelligence, obviously.
They come from habits learned early…
and never challenged.

Real French.
Clear explanations.
New reflexes.
No translating in your head.

Save this episode.
Review it.
That’s how identity shifts.

If you don’t want to learn French anymore,

#learnfrench #frenchforexpats #americanexpat #movetofrance #expatinfranceIs a strict classroom really the best way to learn French?

This American expat shares his experience.

His name is Curtis.
He lives in Paris.
And spoken French had always been a challenge for him.

Not because he didn’t study.
Not because of his level.
Not because he didn’t try.

But because the way he had learned French before
didn’t feel natural to him.

In this clip, he explains why:
laughing, joking, and enjoying the moment
made learning French feel easier and more effective.

For him, learning works better
when the atmosphere is relaxed, human, and real,
not overly strict or academic.

What about you?
Do you learn better in a strict environment
or in a more relaxed one?

#learnfrench #americanexpat #expatlife #movetofrance #frenchlearningWhy do English words sneak into your French?

Kaylie is American from New York, but originally from California.
She speaks English every day.
So when she speaks French…

English habits show up.

“Like.”
Again.
And again.

That doesn’t mean her French is bad.
It means her brain is doing what it knows best.
Because she knows the French equivalent!
Language habits don’t disappear overnight.
They shift. Slowly. Naturally.

And here’s something important most learners forget:

French itself is a mix of languages.

French has tons of English words like week-end, parking, stress, cool.
It has many Arabic words like algorithme, café, magasin.
It also borrowed from Spanish like sieste, moustique, tomate.
From Italian like balcon, banque, piano.
And many more…

Languages have always mixed.
Borrowed.
Adapted.

Learning French isn’t about erasing who you are.
It’s about reshaping your reflexes.

And sometimes,
you bring a little bit of your culture with you.

That’s normal.
That’s human.

Personally, since I speak four languages, of course some words invite themselves too haha!

What about you?
Do English words come out automatically when you speak French too? Do you switch to your mother tongue when you’re angry? Hahah

That being said, if you want visible results in a short amount of time,
and you’re tired of random apps, random lessons online, scattered content, and slow progress,
